I Am The Sea.

In my darkest crevices, he whispered
Tongue-snake slithering across his lips
Soft breaths betraying sharper words across my skin
Myself I gave him like a gift

He blossomed like a flower inside my body
Every petal unfurling like a scream
My tears the rain to feed the earth beneath us
My cries the wind to scatter seeds

I am the thunder
I am the lightning striking sand
I am the roots anchoring the eldest trees
I am the sea

He is a ship wrecked
Broken wood across a beach
Baptized in ice and salt and water
A drowning sailor, he cannot breathe

Inside my darkest caves he whispered
His sweetest breath across my lips
He sank himself inside my waters
He floated boats upon my hips

I am the sea.

  1. Wow. I am moved. I used to write a lot and have been feeling inspired this past year so I set myself out to read more poetry. Thank you for sharing this.

    1. Thank you for reading it! I used to write tons of poetry when I was younger and this is the first poem I’ve written in years, so I totally understand that “geez I need to get writing again” feeling. I’ve just started reading more poetry again myself and it’s definitely reignited that passion for it. I highly recommend “bone” by Yrza Daley-Ward and Liar by Lynn Crosbie if you’re looking for suggestions!
